The Front is pleased to present City Block, a solo exhibition by Micah Rosenblatt

Brooklyn-based welder and designer Micah Rosenblatt invites you to explore his latest collection, “City Block.” This 16-piece exhibition, featuring steel, illuminated glass blocks, and upholstery, reflects Rosenblatt’s interpretation of New York City’s iconic architecture while contemplating its future legacy. “City Block” delves into the dialogue between modernity and myth, questioning how contemporary designs transition into timeless antiquity.

Rosenblatt finds inspiration in the architectural diversity of New York City. “I love walking around New York City, getting lost, and simply looking up at the architecture in dialogue,” he shares. “There are so many weird facades, architectural compositions, and connections. I wanted to take this dramatic and industrial scenery, and bring it to a smaller, domestic scale.”

Rosenblatt’s designs often incorporate classical elements at new scales and forms. The steel loveseat is adorned with spheres suspended in a spiral frame, while the dining table features stacked steel cylinders. His use of glass blocks not only diffuses light but also nods to his Floridian roots, blending architectural beauty with a touch of kitsch.

Micah Rosenblatt is a Brooklyn-based designer and metalworker, specializes in sculptural furniture that combines industrial forms with a whimsical edge. Originally from Gainesville Florida, he spent his formative years studying Jewish mysticism before pursuing his passion for design and fabrication at various high-end metal shops in New York City. This hands-on entry into metalwork is evident in his direct and honest approach to materiality, as well as his deep relationship with craft and detail. Working primarily in metal, Rosenblatt is captivated by its capacity to achieve great strength with visual lightness. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Architectural Digest, and the A24 film, ‘Problemista’.
